Are You a Passion Pusher?

This post is completely disconnected from the topic of  Darien real estate. Being the author of this blog has given me a certain confidence in my writing. As a result, and on a lark,I submitted a freelance article to The New York Times regarding how todays parents tend to overprogram our children. and overuse the word "passion" to describe their activities. I am proud to say that this past Sunday,November 14,the article was published in the Metropolitan section of the paper.I'm aware...Continue Reading!

No Matter Where You Are,Lock Your Car,Darien Homes in the News

The Gold Coast Standard and Darien Real Estate

Alas -any balanced blog about Darien and vicinity has to include some mention of crime. In my 25 years here, there have been occasional burglaries, telephone or door to door scams and lots of reports of various DUI arrests that appear in the weekly Police Blotter. The crime of the month appears to be a series of unlocked car break ins where apparently there is little if anything taken from the vehicles.Curious but true. Rental Potential, Darien Real Estate

The Gold Coast Standard and Darien Real Estate

For one reason or another the rental market in Fairfield County is on fire. No sooner do homes for rent come on the market as they seem to disappear. Its not uncommon for a rental to be listed and leased in one day. During the dog days of August, I think people are looking last minute to get their children in school or have given up for the year on finding their dream home. Whatever the case, it takes a good Realtor...Continue Reading!

When is an Asking Price Not What it Seems?…Darien Homes for Sale

The Gold Coast Standard and Darien Real Estate

Well, when the seller has instructed the agent to remove the house from the market and re-list it with a new, reduced, asking price. The theory here is that new potential, homebuyers will perceive the home as new on the market when really it may have been listed for quite awhile.Second, the new listing will not indicate that the house was listed before at a higher price. Therefore potential buyers will not know how much the house has been reduced. You see deeply discounted...Continue Reading!

Wall Street Journal Heralds Return of the “Teardown”,Darien Homes for Sale

An interesting article in today's Wall St.Journal is trumpeting the return of the "teardown" in CT.That's the affectionate term for homes of a certain vintage that are beyond rehab or are located on a parcel that could be otherwise "optimized". While its true that the market has literally bounced like a rubber ball ,I haven't seen any local evidence of this so far. It may still take some time for Darien builders to get back in this game. Stay tuned. http://online.wsj.com/article/SB10001424052748703686304575228221412542494.html?mod=WSJ_Real+Estate_MIDDLETopNewsContinue Reading!

From time to time there are homes for sale in the Darien CT real estate market that simply confound the Darien Realtors .The other day I walked through such a  home which, for some reason, simply has not sold despite it being a great deal.
